Atlanta History: Reverend J.M. Gates

With Dr. King’s birthday coming up soon, we here at My Darling Atlanta considered sharing another great orator’s history from our lovely city: the Reverend J.M. Gates from Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Reverend Gates was always bound for the promised land. Too bad he passed in 1945 before seeing the light of hope with Dr. King’s charge for desegregation.

As an homage to Reverend Gates and the history of Atlanta, please take a moment in your day for the following recording. The clip was recorded in 1926. Reverend Gates recorded over 200 sermons. He once recorded 23 sermons in one week.
